How We Work
The Partnership for Age-Friendly Communities in Larimer County
was founded on the idea that qualify of life for adults in Larimer County would be better served if community organizations dedicated to their well-being worked together as partners to identify needs and design solutions.
Our first project in February 2014 was a day-long series of facilitated round table discussions about the current status of aging services in our county and the potential for creating substantial change. We invited individuals representing a broad spectrum of services including, housing, transportation, health, and culture and from a variety of perspectives including business, nonprofit, and government entities. Participation was both enthusiastic and productive. All that PAFC has accomplished since is based on the goals, priorities and commitments established on that day.
Most projects undertaken by PAFC are designed with at least one community partner in mind who could ultimately assume responsibility for its ongoing success. We do the ground work and, once the project is established as viable, our partner fosters its growth.
Funding for new untried proposals is always a challenge. We could not have begun to develop the number of projects we have undertaken without the help of organized teams of volunteers - mostly older adults themselves along with experts in the field - who are willing to commit to exploring an idea and developing it into a working model ready for prime time. This in full view of the prospect that it simply might not succeed with the resources available to support it.
Our future sustainability depends on the support of our partners, the work of our volunteers, and the faith that donors have in our philosophy of collaboration.
